Edge / IoT

▾ 0 MINUTE READ — CLOSE

Edge computing refers to the placement of servers closer to the end-users, to serve as a connecting link to back-end data center operations. As organizations have moved their operations into the cloud, responsiveness can sometimes be a potential issue. Placing content and even simple functionality in regional centers closer to the customer, or end-user, improves the response time.

Likewise, edge computing can also help manage a large number of end-devices, often known as the Internet of Things. These can be cable set-top boxes, weather sensors, or other devices that can draw or send a lot of information to and from the data center. An edge computing setup can serve as an intermediary to aggregate data or split a single data feed across multiple users.
