Take Our Survey on How Developers Use Open Source

8 Jul 2019 2:12pm, by

The Linux Foundation and VMware sponsored this post.

Open source is ubiquitous and many corporations have rules about which open source licenses can be used. But, not every organization has an open source policy or a formal program to manage how it is used or produced. In partnership with The Linux Foundation’s TODO Group and co-sponsored by VMware, we are conducting the second annual “Open Source Programs in the Enterprise” study to determine how open source is managed and promoted.

When you give us your name and email address, you’ll also be automatically entered into a random drawing to win one of five $100 Visa gift cards. (We will never use your personal information for any other purpose. See the official rules, below, for more details.)

Last year’s study found that open source programs have emerged as a best practice among large companies and are expected to foster “open source culture.” This year, we will track the progress of existing initiatives and see if a new wave of companies have started their own open source program. The current study looks at several new topics, including:

  • Contributor license agreements (CLA)
  • Adoption of both methodologies and software to enable both license compliance and code security
  • The impact of corporations’ open source community citizenship on buying decisions

Please take ten minutes to complete this survey. The results will be shared publicly on The New Stack and the TODO Group’s Github repository.

In concert with our survey on open source in the enterprise, The New Stack is giving away five $100 Visa gift cards. Anyone may enter the sweepstakes starting on Monday, July 8, by providing their name and email address at the end of the survey. If you do not wish to complete the survey, you may enter the drawing here.

The New Stack never has and never will share your personal information and will only use your email for the purposes of contacting the winner.

Limit one entry per individual. Likelihood of winning will depend on the total number of entrants, estimated to be in the 1/500 to 1/1,000 range.

The New Stack will choose a winner after the close of the survey, no later than Aug. 15, 2019, through a random drawing of all entries. The winner will be notified via the email address they provide.
